Proformica ferreri

The colonies develop so-called repletes (storage ants). These special workers consume enormous amounts of honey or sugar water until their abdomen swells up plump like a small, shiny drop. They then usually hang motionless from the nest ceiling and serve as living larders for the rest of the colony during dry periods.
