Monomorium hiten

This species, originating from Southeast Asia, is captivating not only due to its characteristic yellow-brown coloration but primarily because of a unique biological feature: its reproduction through parthenogenesis (virgin birth). They form highly polygynous nests and are extremely tiny; even the queens only reach 3mm.

⚠️ We recommend this species exclusively for advanced keepers. Due to the small body size of the workers and the rapid, entirely male-less reproduction, Monomorium hiten places very high demands on comprehensive escape prevention.
