Lasius fuliginosus

Lasius fuliginosus is an absolute dream for experienced ant keepers and a true jewel in myrmecology. This native species owes its name to its deep black, extremely reflective exoskeleton, which makes it shine beautifully in the spotlight of the arena. But it is not only visually, but also biologically, one of the most fascinating species of all. Lasius fuliginosus does not found its colonies independently. After the nuptial flight, the queen invades nests of Lasius umbratus, takes over control there and has her brood raised by the foreign workers.
