Cataulacus granulatus is an extraordinary arboreal ant species from the tropics of Southeast Asia. With its heavily armored, granulated body, it visually resembles a small tortoise or an ancient fortress. When in danger, the worker presses itself flat against the tree bark or tucks its legs under its body to become invulnerable to predators.
