Are you looking for an ant species that impresses with pure dynamism, extreme speed, and fascinating hunting behavior? Cataglyphis rosenhaueri is a beautiful, distinctively colored desert ant from the hottest regions of Southern Spain. It is perfect for keepers who are looking for a diurnal species that guarantees never a dull moment in the formicarium.

In their native habitat, they live in barren sandy soils and are specialized in foraging during the extreme midday heat. They hunt their prey (mostly other insects that have not survived the heat) in a permanent sprint. To touch the hot ground as little as possible, they run on long legs and often raise their gaster steeply into the air – an absolutely spectacular sight!

They observe you back: A special feature of these desert ants is their highly developed eyesight. Unlike many almost blind ant species, they actively use their large eyes for orientation and often curiously observe their keepers through the arena's glass.
